Looking outside the human for wisdom can bring us into a deeper connection with our internal guidance system. Here in Aotearoa, New Zealand, the indigenous cosmological view involves a constant intra-action between human, animal and natural agents. So it’s without a single raised eyebrow that I enjoyed the following communications in meditation with leopard and butterfly.
They help us navigate the whirling waters of this new moon in Pisces and the continuing solar plexus chakra healing that is going down right now, namely healing around:
// who you are
// how you walk in the world
// the ways in which you express your self and
// your relationship to your own wounds.
We’re talking integrity, connection and awareness of the self as in a state of constant flux.
A leopard doesn’t change his/her spots is the old adage. So what does it mean when leopard speaks with butterfly, the quintessential emblem of rapid transformation?
Buddhism teaches the law of cause and effect, the law of real time karma. According to Nichiren Buddhism, there are 1000 worlds in each moment. Every minute of every day, you can change your destiny and change your life through the choices you make. By your actions, you choose. And you act with and through the forces of the world around you. Like butterfly then, we can begin life (or even each day!) as caterpillar, stitch our chrysalis and emerge wing first into the world as an entirely different creature. But doesn’t that go against leopard’s wisdom of the consistent self whose spots never change?
There is a real buzz in creative and critical writing circles around finding your voice. As if your voice is something you can try on or manipulate or that ever really eluded you in the first place. ‘Finding your voice’ (let’s say finding the self) actually means through play, experimentation and continual conscious rebirthing you will find ways to give form and shape to the one unique and constant voice within you.
So it is in this notion of the self as in a state of continual flux that butterfly and leopard join. Butterfly with its dynamic, dramatic transformation genes, its ability to evolve in one lifetime and leopard with its steady energy.
Their shared wisdom is: know the self as a dynamic entity, continually dying and rebirthing, yet know it has a deep undercurrent of consistency within it. Embrace your dynamism. You are always you and you contain all the possibilities for transformation that are meant for you.
Pisces is sensitive, creative, connecting, full of butterfly potential, but boundaries can get blurred and integrity compromised so call in the leopard self. Give your solar plexus chakra the grace of attention this next week or so.
Bring awareness to your solar plexus and visualize it filling with golden light.
Breathe deeply into the stomach.
With your hands on your solar plexus, three times repeat the words:
Breathe into the space within your body that opens up after each exhale.
Through a solid energetic grounding and openness to your own potential for transformation, this new moon you can give shape and form to the YOU that you have always been.
It would mean so much if you hit the buttons below to share with friends and loves and let me know in the comments if you ‘talk to the animals’ da de daaa.
Love and connection, xo
